however the characters
the characters well drawn the dialog seemingly authentic for the period and the action believable You can read it in a two to three hours and it s time well spent Larry McMurtry is an exceptionally prolific author He has written a number of books that I have not read or in this instance listened to but of the six or seven I have finished Boone s Lick is one of his bestWill Patton is the reader and having heard him read Dead Man s Walk along with a number of James Burke s works I uickly got a copy of Boone s Lick Patton is the best at interpreting this kind of material orally and I never get enough of his work in this modem He seems to always play bad guys with his actingThe book is glorious and I have listened to it many times It has a great plot and is very enjoyable until it nears the end I do not care for the way that McMurtry seemed to want to close out the story so he would not be buried in reuests for a seuel I guessBut then great writers of his caliber do seem to have a constant supply of inspiration ideas for new works so I figure he ust wants to keep exploring new territories with fresh characterizations. Boones LickI think that this was McMurtry at his best His attention to detail is amazing and it brings the characters to life I look forward to reading the others in the series I found this to be an easy going story and it is a book for all age groupsRecommended reading Good Road trip book You ll be glad the ourney ends because it s not that interesting I ve read everything McMurtry s written This is not his best work Written with many short chapters so good for bedtime reading Yet the story as told is choppy with gaps in the tale between some of the chapters It doesn t flow It s a bunch of loosely connected short story tales Then at the end #IN A SLIGHTLY LONGER CHAPTER THE #a slightly longer chapter the appears to have tired of the tale he suddenly condenses the remaining years of the lives of the characters some of them still young with a fascinating future ahead into a few short summary paragraphs This book lacks the allure of McMurtry s earlier books I am a die hard Larry McMurtry fan and have read many of his novels all of which I have enjoyed No One Uite Captures The Old uite captures the Old as well as him His laconic sense of humor and dialogue drops you right into the middle of the story Your pace of reading slows down and you become a part of the wonderful stories he weaves This novel revolves around a Mother who decides on a whim to pick up and search for her long lost husband in Wyoming The family has many adventures along the way meeting an intriguing cast of miscreants and misfits It s a highly entertaining sometimes hilarious read and highly recommended A great read Thoroughly enjoyed this book It took me on a wonderful ourney with some wonderful people and I was sorry when it ended Larry McMurty never fails The title was better than the book I actually read the Ber. A new series by the Pulitzer Prize winning author of Lonesome Dove introduces the Mi. Rybender Narratives first which were much better Both stories cover similar material It wasn t mentioned but the leader of the Indian decoy at the end of the Book was Crazy Horse who 10 the Indian decoy at the end of the Book was Crazy Horse who 10 later would lead the Last Stand of you know who This story reminds me so much of my mother s family Hardship after hardship yet they all turned out fineLeft me with a good feeling Just as the tiny town of Lonesome Dove was the starting point for a ourney in Larry McMurtry s book of the same name so also is Boone s Lick in this yarn by the same authorIn LONESOME DOVE we followed the adventures of two Texas Rangers turned cattle ranchers driving a herd from the banks of the Rio Grande to Montana herd from the banks of the Rio Grande to Montana BOONE S LICK we #Have A Family Of Sodbusters The Cecils #a family of sodbusters the Cecils the plains between Missouri and Wyoming shortly after the Civil War The family is led by the mother Mary Margaret whose intent is to find her husband gone these past 14 months and presumably living at one of the Army s frontier forts possibly with an Indian woman Along for the ride are Mary s children GT Shay Neva and Marcy her brother in law Seth her half sister Rosie and her aged Pa Also attaching themselves to the group are an old French priest FrVilly and a native guide Charlie Seven DaysWhereas LONESOME DOVE was a truly epic tale both as a book and as one of the best TV miniseries ever broadcast BOONE S LICK is less ambitious but enjoyable nonetheless The character of Seth was sufficiently similar to that of Gus McCrae in the LONESOME DOVE screenplay that I could easily imagine McRae s Robert Duvall playing the part if BOONE S LICK is ever brought to the screen Picturing Duvall as Seth added considerably to my enjoymentAuthor McMurtry s style is very similar in both stories He doesn t do.
